TONSUS

TONSUS or TONZUS (Τόνσος, Zos. 2.22.8; cf. Lampr. Elag. 7), the principal tributary of the Hebrus in Thrace. It rises in the Haemus: its general course for about 70 miles is almost due E.; it then makes a sudden bend to the S., and, after a farther southerly course of nearly the same length, falls into the Hebrus, a short distance from Hadrianopolis, Now Tuncza or Toondja.
