CE´REA
CE´REA (
Κερέα,
Steph. B. sub voce Βήνη; Suid. s. v.
Ῥιανός: Eth.
Κερεάτης,
Plb. 4.53.6), a town of Crete, which from its mention by Polybius (
l.c.), and from a coin with the epigraph KEPAITAN, and presenting the same
type as those of Polyrrhenia, has been inferred to have been in the neighbourhood of that town. (Eckhel, vol. ii. p. 306; Hoeck,
Kreta, vol. i. p. 392.)
