CIMME´RIUM

CIMME´RIUM (Κιμμέριον, Ptol. 3.6.4; Κιμμερὶς, Scymn. Frag. cxlviii; Κιμμερικόν, Strab. xi. p.494; Cimmerium, Pomp. Mela, 1.19.15), a town of the Cimmerian Bosporus which Pliny says was situated “ultimo in ostio,” and was formerly called CERBERION (6.6). Clarke (Trav. vol. ii. p. 67) identifies it with Temruk; Forbiger (vol. iii. p. 1128) with Eskikrimm.
