429. Similar is the use of ἔφην in Od. iv. 171: καί μιν ἔφην ἐλθόντα φιλήσεμεν ἔξοχον ἄλλων, εἰ νῶιν νόστον ἔδωκεν (Ζεύς), i.e. I intended to love him (and should have done so) had Zeus granted us a return.
