[*] 548. Sometimes the first clause of the simile has the present or aorist indicative. E.g. Ὡς δ᾽ ἀναμαιμάει βαθἔ ἄγκεα θεσπιδαὲς πῦρ, ὣς ὅ γε πάντη θῦνε. Il. xx. 490. Ὡς δ᾽ ὁπότε πλήθων ποταμὸς πεδίονδε κάτεισιν, πολλὰς δὲ δρῦς ἐσφέρεται, ὣς ἔφεπεν. Il. xi. 492. Ἤριπε δ᾽ ὡς ὅτε τις δρῦς ἤριπεν, and he fell as when an oak falls (once fell). Il. xiii. 389. Ὡς δ᾽ ὅτε τίς τε δράκοντα ἰδὼν παλίνορσος ἀπέστη. Il. iii. 33: so ὥς τε λέων ἐχάρη, Il. iii. 23.
