As an indirect quotation or question is generally the object or subject of its leading verb, it may stand in apposition with a pronoun like τοῦτο which represents such an object or subject; as τοῦτο λέγομεν, ὅτι σοφός ἐστιν, we say this, that he is wise; τοῦτο δῆλόν ἐστιν, ὅτι σοφός ἐστιν, this is plain, that he is wise; τοῦτο σκεψόμεθα, εἰ ἀληθῆ λέγεις, we shall inquire into this, whether you tell the truth.
