[402] λάιγγας: in Hom. λάιγγες means 'pebbles,' but here it has no such dim. force, as is shown by the use of ὀχλίζοντες 'levering up'; cf. 4. 1678, ἂν δὲ βαρείας ὀχλίζων λάιγγας.
