[850] The inhabitants of Heraclea were bidden by an oracle of Apollo to make offerings to their πολισσοῦχος (guardian of the city) who was buried there. They, not knowing that the tomb was the tomb of Idmon, and believing that it was the tomb of Agamestor, a local hero, made offerings to him.
