[124] ᾿πιπροϊείς: 'throwing forward,' casting one after another. The use of this word seems to decide that the game was one of dice-throwing, the loser forfeiting his dice, though Seaton (Cl. Rev. 1 170) argues strongly that it was ἀρτιασμός (par impar), and explains ἐπιπρ. as 'staking,' quoting in support Becq de Fouquières (Jeux des Anciens 284 sqq.), “"il n'avait plus que deux osselets, qu'il aventurait l'un après l'autre."”
