[1131] ἠγαθέῳ: 'hallowed,' an epithet only applied to places, and generally explained as ἄγαν θεῖος (v. Buttm. Lexil.). Goebel regards it as a strengthened form of ἀγαθός. Leaf (on Il. 1. 252) proposes ἀγάθεος (from ἄγαν) with the first syll. lengthened metrically.
