[1693] παμπρώτιστα: this superl. is only found here, though πάμπρωτον is common.

βάλοιεν ὑπέρ: ὑπερβάλλειν, meaning 'to double a cape,' elsewhere takes the acc. (e. g. Hdt. 7. 168); ὑπέρ may be used as in Od. 14. 300, δ᾽ ἔθεενΜέσσον ὑπὲρ Κρήτης, where it seems to mean 'out from,' 'keeping clear of' (v. Monro).

Σαλμωϝίδος ἄκρης: the eastern point of Crete, mentioned in St. Paul's voyage, Acts 27. 7, ὑπεπλεύσαμεν τὴν Κρήτην κατὰ Σαλμώνην.
