voiceful; esp. with regard to the power of song, Circe,
Od. 10.136, Calypso, Od. 12.449, Ino, Od. 5.334
; Λευκοθέη, ἣ πρὶν μὲν ἔην βροτὸς
αὐδήεσσα, i. e. a ‘tuneful’ mortal,
not a ‘mortal speaking with human voice;’ of
Xanthus, the horse of Achilles, αὐδήεντα δ᾽
ἔθηκε θεα?, ‘endowed him with voice’
(i. e. human as contrasted with equine utterance).
