Αρτεμις : Artemis (Diana), daughter of Zeus and Leto, and sister of Apollo; virgin goddess of the chase, and the supposed author of sudden painless deaths of women (see ἀγανός); women of fine figure are compared to Artemis, Od. 4.122, Od. 17.17, 37, Od. 19.56, cf. Od. 6.151 ff.; her favorite haunts are wild mountainous regions, Erymanthus in Arcadia, Taÿgetus in Laconia, Od. 6.102; epithets, ἁγνή, ἰοχέαιρα, χρυ_σηλάκατος, χρυ_σήνιος, χρυ_σόθρονος, ἀγροτέρη, κελαδεινή.
