ἀλεγεινός (ἄλγος), comp. neut. ἄλγιον, sup. ἄλγιστος: painful, hard, toilsome; πυγμαχίη, κυ?ματα, μαχλο- σύνη, ‘fraught with trouble,’ Il. 24.30; freq. w. inf., ἡμίονος ἀλγίστη δαμάσασθαι, Il. 23.655.—Adv. ἄλγιον, used in exclamations, τῷ δ᾽ ἄλγιον, ‘so much the worse’ for him!
