ἐάω, εἰάω , ἐῶ, εἰῶ, ἐάα?ς, etc., ipf. εἴων, εἴα_ς, εἴα_, ἔα_, iter. εἴασκον, ἔασκες, fut. ἐα?σω, aor. εἴα_σα, ἔα_σας, etc.: let, permit, let alone, let be, οὐκ ἐᾶν, prevent, forbid; εἴπερ γὰρ φθονέω τε καὶ οὐκ εἰῶ διαπέρσαι (note οὐκ εἰῶ in the condition), Il. 4.55, Il. 2.132, 832; παύἐ, ἔα_ δὲ χόλον, ‘give up’ thy wrath, Il. 9.260 ; ἵππους ἔα_σε, ‘left standing,’ Il. 4.226 ; τὸν μὲν ἔπειτ᾽ εἴα_σε, him he ‘let lie,’ Il. 8.317: with inf. of the omitted act., κλέψαι μὲν ἐα?σομεν, ‘we will dismiss’ the plan of stealth, Il. 24.71.—Some forms are often to be read with synizesis, ἐᾷ, ἔα_, ἐῶμεν, ἐα?σουσιν.
