πρῶτος (sup. from πρό): first, of position, rank, or time, opp. ὕστατος, Il. 2.281; ἐν πρωτῃ ἀγορῇ, ‘front’ of the assembly, Il. 19.50 ; ἐνὶ πρώτῃσι θύρῃσι (cf. πρόθυρα), ‘at the first entrance,’ Od. 1.255 ; πρῶτοι for πρόμαχοι, Il. 5.536, Od. 18.379; τὰ πρῶτα (sc. ἆθλα), Il. 23.275.— Adv., πρῶτον, πρῶτα, τὸ πρῶτον, τὰ πρῶτα, Δ 267, Il. 1.6; w. ἐπειδή (cum primum), ‘as soon as.’
