τι?νω (τίω), fut. τι?σω, aor. ἔτι_σα, inf. τῖσαι, mid. fut. τι?σομαι, aor. ἐτι_σάμην, τι?σατο, opt. 3 pl. τι_σαίατο, inf. τι?σασθαι: I. act., pay a debt or a penalty, atone for; in good sense, ζωάγρια, αἴσιμα πάντα, ἀμοιβὴν βοῶν, Od. 5.407, θ 348, Od. 12.382; in bad sense, τι_μήν τινι, θωήν, Od. 2.193; w. acc. of the thing atoned for, Il. 1.42, Od. 24.352; rarely acc. of the person atoned for, Il. 17.34; ‘reward,’ Od. 14.166.—II. mid., exact satisfaction, make one pay you for something, τινά τι, τινά τινος, ο 236, Il. 3.366; hence punish.
