sacerdoti. ‘Because he was Apollo's priest they gave to him as then a chest to keepe in frankincense,’ Golding. His priestly character suggests the form of the present. III. iii. 32, with Wickham's note.custodem, with more feeling of the metaphor than in our corresponding use of ‘keeper.’ So with reference to the use of bay-branches at Rome (i. 562, Fast.III. 137-42) n.
