τὸν μέν τινα: a certain man.

τὸν δέ, τὸν δέ: while another, and a third etc.

πρὸ πάντων χρημάτων: it seems better to const. this phrase with ἑλοίμην, leaving πόνων as gen. of price with πριαίμην. Others join both gens. with πριαίμην.

πόνων: cf. τῶν πόνων πωλοῦσιν ἡμῖν πάντα τἀγάθ᾽ οἱ θεοί ii. 1. 20.

φίλον μοι εἶναι: i.e. ὥστε φίλον μοι εἶναι.
