In the dative plural the longer ending is by far the more common. -ῃς is in many instances only the elided form of -ῃσι, and might be written -ῃς᾿. E. g. Z 250, the best MS. reads “αἰδοίῃσ᾽ ἀλόχοισι”, not “αἰδοίῃς κτλ.
