Far more common than the preceding is the potential optative with “κε” or “ἄν”, the Attic construction. E. g. 2.12, “νῦν γάρ κεν ἕλοι πόλιν εὐρυάγυιαν”, ‘for now he may take the broad-wayed city.’ 3.52 f., “οὐκ ἂν δὴ μείνειας ἀρηίφιλον Μενέλα_ον: γνοίης χ᾽ , οἵου κτλ.” See note.
