The infinitive sometimes expresses result, although it is often impossible to dissociate the idea of purpose, too. E. g. A 8, “τίς τ᾽ ἄρ σφωε θεῶν ἔριδι ξυνέηκε μάχεσθαι;” ‘who then of the gods brought these two together in strife to contend?’
