[139] ἀκρότατον: const. with “χρόα”, the outer flesh. Cf.ἄκρην ῥινόν” (skin) Od. 22.278.

ἐπέγραψε: cf. “ἐπιγράψαι τέρενα” (tender) “χρόα νηλέι χαλκῷ Ν” 553.

φωτός: of the man, i.e. Menelaus. Equiv. to Attic “αὐτοῦ”. This noun is not necessary, but is in the Epic manner of fulness. cf. “τῷ” (sc. “ἔγχει”) “δάμνησι” (overcomes, sc. Athena) “στίχας ἀνδρῶνͅ ἡρώων, τοῖσίν τε κοτέσσεται Θ” 390 f.
