[88] χειμάρρῳ: i.e. a stream from heavy rains or melting snows, in contrast with “ὕδατα ἀενάοντα”. In appos. with “ποταμῷ”. See 11.492 f., quoted on 4.452.

ὦκα: const. with “ῥέων”. This seems to be referred to in “ἐλθόντ᾽ ἐξαπίνης” 91. cf. “ὠκυρόῳ” 598.

ἐκέδασσε: disiecit, scatters, shatters. Gnomic aorist.

γεφύρας: dams, dikes, levees. — cf. nec validi possunt pontes venientis aquaï| vim subitam tolerare Lucretius i. 484 f.
