[898] καὶ δὴ πάλαι: even long ago, i.e. not just now.

ἦσθα: the fg. hiatus is justified by the pause.

ἐνέρτερος: comparative of “ἔνερος”. Lower than the Uranions.

Οὐρανιώνων: here, at variance with ordinary Homeric usage, the “Οὐρανίωνες” are not the inhabitants of heaven (373, § 21 a), but the Titans, Cronus, Iapetus, etc., sons of “Οὐρανός”, the race that (acc. to later story) ruled before Zeus, and were hurled by him into Tartarus. cf. 8.13 ff., 479 ff., “Ξ 279, Ο” 225, Hesiod Theog. 720.
