On 5.698. cf. “ζωγρεῖτ᾽ αὐτὰρ ἐγὼν ἐμὲ λύσομαι Κ” 378. ἄξια: worthy. Equiv. to Attic “ἀντάξια”. It seems never to mean ‘deserving’ in Homer. ἄποινα. the ransom was the strongest motive for sparing a prisoner's life.
