πρός: is the only preposition that occurs at all frequently in Attic prose as an adverb.
οὕτως κτἑ.: ‘Life is not the highest good, but guilt is certainly the greatest evil.’ This was one of the life principles of Socrates. Cf. the beautiful exposition in Apol. 28 b ff., especially 29 b and 30 d, Crito 48 b.
