ἄθλιοι προπηλακίζονται: “are insulted in their misery” (D. and V.). ἄθλιοι is not altogether predicative (“are miserably insulted” J. and C.), although it goes more closely with προπηλακίζονται than with γέροντες γιγνόμενοι. Schneider translates “und Greise werdend bittere Schmach erdulden müssen.”
