The phrase has a dash of old-world romance about it: cf. 391 E infra and Stallbaum on Phil. 16 C οἱ μὲν παλαιοί, κρείττονες ἡμῶν καὶ ἐγγυτέρω θεῶν οἰκοῦντες. λιτανεύοντά τε -- ἕκαστον. Il.
