πρὸ τοῦ...παθεῖν : before suffering the worst. Cf. c. 100. 4.— 2. ὑπακοῦσαι: this is the voluntary act which would lead to subjection, and is therefore substituted as a milder word for δουλεῦσαι in c. 92.— μὴ διαφθείραντες ὑμᾶς: i.e. by not robbing ourselves of the strength you would bring us.
