II. 41, λέγω τὴν πᾶσαν πόλιν Ἑλλάδος παίδευσιν εἶναι. ἆθλα...γυμνάσια...ἐμπειρίαν Athens offers to the students of oratory (1) the greatest prizes, — i.e. political power or literary fame: (2) ‘the most numerous and most various fields of exercise’, γυμνάσια — viz. the law-courts, the ecclesia, the public recitations: (3) experience, ἐμπειρία, — the result of using these opportunities.
