Anecdote of Gen. Butler.

The following story is told of Gen. Butler: “I will not go back to New-Orleans,” says the General, “unless I can have more troops. Why can't you give me more?” “We haven't them to give,” replied Mr. Lincoln. “Then why don't you raise more — put the draft upon New-York — raise that forty thousand who should have been raised in that State last fall?” “Mr. Seymour says it will not do to draft in New-York,” answers Mr. Lincoln. “Then I would draft Seymour!” asserts Butler.
