As a rising nation, it shares the sympathy of the civilized world.
It is destined to become the asylum of the Africans of America
, and the centre of civilization to the long-benighted continent of Africa
Thither all eyes are turned as the oasis of hope in her desert history.

How has it arisen to its present position?
It has been built up from the free colored population of this country — colonized by their own consent.
