Spooner, Lysander 1808-1887

Lawyer; born in Athol, Mass., Jan. 19, 1808; was instrumental in inducing Congress in 1851 to pass an act reducing letter-postage by establishing a private post from Boston to New York, and from New York to Washington. His publications include Credit; Currency and banking; Poverty, causes and cure; A defence for fugitive slaves; A New system of paper currency; Our financiers; Gold and silver as standards of value; Law of prices; Letter to Grover Cleveland on his false inaugural address, etc. He died in Boston, Mass., May 14, 1887.
