Medical schools.

Medical education in the United States at the close of the school year 1898-99 was promoted by 151 schools, which had 4,389 professors and instructors, and a total of 23,778 students. As far as reported the endowments of these schools aggregated $1,422,873. The value of the grounds and buildings was placed at $13,121,529, and the libraries contained about 131,999 volumes. These schools included the regular medical, the homoeopathic, the eclectic, and the physiomedical, and with few exceptions the principal ones were departments of large colleges and universities.
