Parliament of religions,

Held at the World's Fair in Chicago, Sept. 11-27, 1893. The objects proposed were: (1) To bring together in conference the leading representatives of different religions; (2) to define and expound the important truths they hold and teach in common; (3) to promote and deepen human brotherhood; (4) to strengthen the foundations of theism and the faith in immortality; (5) to hear from scholars, Brahman, Buddhist, Confucian, Parsee, Mohammedan, Jewish, and other faiths, and from all sects and denominations of the Christian Church, accounts of the influence of each belief on literature, art, science, commerce, government, social life, etc.; (6) to record the present condition and outlook of the various religions of the world.
