The 62d Mass. Infantry was in process of formation at Readville, Mass., when news of the surrender of General Lee's army was received. Ansel D. Wass, late colonel of the 60th Infantry, had been selected to command the regiment, though not mustered. Four companies had been mustered into service and remained in camp until mustered out, May 5, 1865.
