--On Saturday afternoon last, Commander Wm. A. Charters was waited on by a committee of Fire Company D, who escorted him to their engine-house, where the Company had assembled to present him with a beautiful gold-headed ebony cane. Rev. Mr. Wagner, on behalf of the Company, made the presentation in a neat and appropriate speech, to which Commander Charters responded in a few feeling and well-timed remarks.
