Bad boy
--
Little Tom Dobson, aged about 13 years, as he appeared before the
Mayor yesterday, would make a most excellent subject for a clever artist to illustrate a "forthcoming work," entitled the ‘"Mysteries of
Richmond."’ Tom had on a jacket, innocent of sleeves, and breeches, the worse for wear; but his face would have furnished the
chef d'œvre. Its expression indicated depravity and cunning, yet an observer could detect intelligence through the dirt.
He was charged with stealing a watch from
Thos. Fitzpatrick, and the
Mayor sent him to jail to keep him out of further mischief.
Tom, unluckily, had never enjoyed much parental care, and the example furnished him, in that respect, brought him to his present condition of juvenile vagrancy.
The child is, therefore, not so much to blame as the father.
