New publications.

Education; Intellectual, Moral and Physical. By Herbert Spencer, author of ‘"Social Statistics,"’ ‘"The Principles of Psychology,’" &c. New York: D. Appleton & Co.--The contents of this book originally appeared in some of the British Quarterlies, and attracted much attention. Among the American patrons of the work appears the name of Edward Everett. The author advocates a system of training of a blended mental and physical character. His system, though not wholly original, is presented with great energy and force. His views on what he terms physical immorality, as connected with general mental character and physical development, are especially impressive. The author conveys to the reader a great deal of very excellent advice with reference to training and health of the young and habits of mature age. For sale by Woodhouse & Co.

First Greek Book; comprising an outline of the forms and reflections of the Language, a complete analytical Syntax, and an introductory Greek Reader. By Albert Harkness, Ph, D., Professor of Greek in Brown University. New York: D. Appleton & Co.

Night Caps, &c.--We have two more little volumes of these pleasant publications for the young people — those dear little creatures who are growing up so rapidly, and will soon shove aside the actors now on the stage, and take things in their own hands. May their guardian angels make them good and virtuous, and more fit than we are to manage affairs.--Their innocent little hearts are the happier and none the worse for listening to pleasant stories. We have now for them, "Fairy Night Caps," "Big Night Cap Letters," and "New Fairy Stories for my Grandchildren." By Geo. Keil, translated from the German by S. W. Lander. For sale by Messrs. Woodhouse & Co. They were all published by Appleton & Co.

Quiet Thoughts for Quiet Hours. By the author of "Life's Morning," "Life's Evening," "Sunday Hours," &c. Boston: J. E. Tilton & Co.--A very neat volume, of a pious and poetical character. For sale by Woodhouse & Co.

Considerations on some of the elements and conditions of Social Welfare and Human Progress. Being Academic and occasional discourses and other pieces, by C. T. Henry, D. D. New York: D. Appleton & Co. For sale by Woodhouse & Co.
