Hustings Court--Judge Lyons presiding.

--In the case of John Mescoe, indicted for receiving stolen goods, the jury, at a late hour on Monday night, brought in a verdict of guilty, and ascertained the term of his imprisonment in the penitentiary at two years. His counsel yesterday, filed a bill of exceptions, and, after argument, the prisoner was remanded to jail, to await action thereon. Mescoe is an old man, who has kept a grocery in this city for many years, and, it is said, has amassed a song fortune in his vocation. To his finale may be applied the axiom, ‘"Honesty is the best policy."’

Yesterday, on the petition of Jas. Azibean, (charged with stabbing John Louis,) representing that he is now confined in the city jail without just cause, a writ of habeas corpus was awarded by Judge Lyons, commanding the Sergeant to have the body of the petitioner before the Court forthwith. In obedience to the writ, Azibean was brought into Court, and the evidence having been partly heard, on motion of counsel, the case was postponed until to-day.
