--It was currently reported on the street yesterday, that the hands employed in the Union Manufacturing Company
's Sewing Machine
Works, were prominently engaged in the disturbances created at the African Church on Monday night. One of the Directors of the Company
, a well known citizen, requests us to state that there is no foundation for such a report.
A thorough investigation was instituted, and it was ascertained that only two, of the one hundred and sixty hands employed in the works, were present at the church; they remained but a short time, and were not in any way connected with the disturbances.
It is due to the workmen and to the officers of the company that this statement should be made.
