A final Dissolution.

If anything were necessary to dissipate the delusion that the Union is finally dissolved; the dispassionate, dignified and decided reply of South Carolina to the Virginia proposition, must settle all dispute. Indeed, we cannot imagine how any one could suppose South Carolina, or any of the other Gulf States, are engaged in such child's play and self-stultification as going out of the Union and coming back, like willful boys leaving home in a pet, and returning as soon as the transient ill humor has subsided. After such grave and deliberate measures as they have taken, they have probably no disposition to become the laughing stock of the whole world.
