Cost of the Pony Express.

--The average expense of each trip of the Pony Express is now only $500. To carry a full mall would require a lead or driven horse, and would probably raise the expense of each trip to $750.--The total cost of a year's service at this rate, six trips a week each way, would be $169,500. The present parties would no doubt take the contract for $200,000, if they could get no better terms. But at the outside, $250,000 a year would meet all contingencies, and leave a good margin for profit.
