Washington, Feb. 15.
--Col. Drinkard, first clerk of the War Department, has resigned his office. The Select Committee on the Indian Trust Fund Fraud, having introduced his name in a manner calculated to produce upon a reader who had not read the evidence, an unfavorable impression, he did not feel at liberty, by further continuance in office, to subject the Administration to any even conjectural embarrassment that might result therefrom. The evidence before the Committee acquits him of any knowledge of the bonds, or of the business between Russell and Bailey.
