--The gold medal from the Irish citizens of San Francisco
, to be presented to the Sixty-ninth Regiment, of New York, arrived by the steamer Northern Light
, on Monday.
It is of pure gold, of huge size, three inches in diameter, one-quarter of an inch in thickness, and weighs six ounces. --Each side of it is set round with an enamelled wreath of shamrock.
On one side is an inscription which tells its own story.
It reads as follows:
"Presented to the Sixty-ninth Regiment, N. Y. S. M., by the Irishmen of San Francisco, Cal.
, in approval of the manly course pursued by the regiment in refusing to take part in the demonstration in favor of the Prince
, during his visit to New York.
, Jan. 1, 1861."’
On the reverse the medal has the flag of the Union
, a rising sun, and the motto, ‘"Erin go Bragh."’ It is valued at $300.
