--The members of this body have been summoned to attend a meeting at the City Hall, at 4 o'clock this evening.
We have intended for some time to call the attention of the City
Fathers to the fact, patent to all, that under the present mode of assembling, once per month, but very little of the public business can be attended to properly, the small modicum that floats to the surface only receiving a superficial glance from the necessarily brief period allotted to the examination of each particular subject claiming attention.
It is a rule which has attained in the ordinary transactions between man and man that, to keep things straight, business must be kept posted up daily.
Meeting only once a month, and sitting for an hour and a half, precludes the notion that the Council can keep even pace with the business of the city.
