Rev. John Teeling, D. D., officiating Priest at St. Peter's Catholic Cathedral, preached an able discourse yesterday in which allusion was made to the present condition of affairs, and which was listened to with deep attention by his congregation. The usual prayer for ‘"the President and people of the United States" ’ was omitted, and the Governor, Convention, and people of Virginia substituted. The same was the case in the Episcopal churches. Mr. T. exhorted his hearers to stand firm in the assertion of their rights against their oppressors.

The religious services in the churches yesterday were unusually solemn and impressive. The sermons were especially directed towards the existing state of affairs, and fervent appeals were made to the Most High in behalf of our brave soldiers.
