We are glad to learn that the steamer Jamestown is not, as was reported, to be released. Whilst our enemies are seizing everything of ours they can lay their hands on, it would be an absurdity to restore this vessel. If she is not fit for a war vessel, she can at least be used in transporting troops up and down the river, a work to which she would be put instantly by our enemies if we let her pass into their hands. Besides, she might do duty as a river guard, and with but a single gun render some service. At any rate, she ought to rot at the wharves sooner than be returned to New York.
