--A New York letter of Monday evening says :

In business affairs, everything is about at a dead halt, and the week in this respect promises to be as dull as the dullest of its predecessors.
Several heavy suspensions of houses connected with the
Cuba trade are reported, together with several in other branches of trade.
There is but little currency for paper of any description, but this is not counted as a hard ship, seeing that there are but few applications at bank, or at the discount houses for "accommodation," nearly all the ordinary avenues for the active and profitable employment of capital, for the moment, being closed on account of the " war. "
